Medications Update: Removing Duplicates, Adding Refill Diagnoses

Filed under: Medications — admin @ 6:55 am

The CIS Team is barreling forward on two important fixes for medication reconciliation:

1. Duplicate medications appearing on the medication list. Certain medications, when reordered, do not get replaced on the medication list. New code is being tested and installed to manage this problem. I am told 15-20 days of effort will be needed.

2. Diagnoses on refill medications. The Epic team and pharmacy team are completing testing of programming code to solve this. GHP has indicated that this is the highest priority fix on pharmacy right now. I am receiving daily updates.

Feel free to post comments below, as always.

Epic Systems’ History – Future

Kaiser Permanente has just posted Judy Faulkner (Epic Systems’ CEO)’s talk from their User Conference at the beginning of August. It’s both very enlightening and very reassuring. She described everything from how they got started, to their decision to never become a public company, to the clinical areas they are working on next.

She singled out Group Health Cooperative to this packed room of Kaiser Permanente staff.

Here is the link. Beware, it is a rather large powerpoint download:
